Mr. Greer is a senior advisor to Oaktree Capital, the distressed debt and private equity investor. He started his career in Hong Kong in 1993 by founding Hartwell Pacific. The Smorgon Steel Group, a publicly listed company on the Australian Stock Exchange and one of the top three steelmakers, bought a 50 percent stake to Hartwell Pacific after the company established a successful presence in Asia. He then served as Chief Executive for Asia for Smorgon Steel Groupís Recycling division, and continued on as the President of Asia for the Recycling division after Onesteel of Australia acquired Smorgon Steel Group. In 2008, having fulfilled all of his obligations under the acquisition and having grown turnover to US$250 million, he resigned his position and became a senior advisor to Oaktree Capital.
Mr. Greer authored the book Starting from Scrap. He received a degree in Economics from Pennsylvania State University in 1991. Currently, he lives in Hong Kong with his wife and three children, and serves on the Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Chapter of the Young Presidentsí Organization.
