Description

In recent years the world has seen significant growth in Asian capital markets, particularly in the emergence of local capital markets in China. At the same time, the current financial crisis has brought both challenges and opportunities. These developments raise important questions. For instance, what are the implications for Asian companies looking for funding? What does this mean for the future role and relative importance of the US capital markets in Asia? Panelists will share their expertise and professional experience in Asia. They will also provide opinions and insights on the future developments of Asian capital markets.

Scott Bonham

Scott Bonham

Founding Partner, GGV Capital

Scott Bonham is a co-founder of GGV Capital and brings a combination of technology investing and marketing experience. Most recently Scott served as a Vice President at the Capital Group Companies where he managed technology investments across 10 mutual funds. Prior to joining the Capital Group, Scott spent four years at Silicon Graphics where he served as a product line manager for entry level workstations. Scott started his career as a systems engineer and maintenance foreman at a General Motors assembly plant. He used his operations and systems experience as a consultant at Booz, Allen & Hamilton where he advised clients on manufacturing and information systems strategies. Scott is actively involved in Boston-Power, Inside Contactless, Heptagon, Teranetics, and Endeca. In addition, he was formerly on the board of Netli (acquired by Akamai), Hurray! Solutions (NASDAQ: HRAY), P-Cube (acquired by Cisco Systems), Ageia Technologies (acquired by NVIDIA) and Zettacom (acquired by Integrated Device Technologies). Also, Scott led the firm's investments in NetScaler (acquired by Citrix Systems), Sirna Therapeutics (acquired by Merck), Ironwood Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: IRWD) and GENBAND. Scott earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Queen's University, Canada and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Benjamin Y.C. Li

Senior Attorney, Lee and Li

Benjamin Y.C. Li is a senior attorney at Lee and Li Attorneys-at-law, the largest law firm in Taiwan, focusing on capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance works. His recent works include representing AIG, HSBC Venture Capital, Goldman Sachs and several NYSE- or Nasdaq- listed companies on multi-billon and multi-million dollar transactions in Asia. He also serves as the Chief Clerk at Taipei Bar Association. Prior to joining Lee and Li, Mr. Li worked for Sullivan & Cromwell in Hong Kong and New York between 2004 and 2007. Mr. Li is licensed to practice law in Taiwan and New York, and fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese. He is a frequent contributor to Taiwan mainstream newspapers. Mr. Li was educated at Lincoln College, Oxford University, New York University School of Law and National Taipei University.

Douglas Tanner is a partner in the New York office of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP. From 2004 to 2009, Mr. Tanner was the head of the firm’s Global Securities Group. Prior to 2004, he was the initial managing partner of the Firm’s Silicon Valley office. From 1992 to 2001, Mr. Tanner was resident in the Firm’s Hong Kong office, serving as the managing partner of the office and head of the Firm's Asia corporate practice, overseeing mergers and acquisitions work and debt and equity offerings throughout Asia. Mr. Tanner worked on the first U.S. listing of a PRC business, China Brilliance Automotive Holdings, and has worked on private equity, high yield debt, and equity securities offerings for Chinese businesses for over 15 years. He received his J.D. degree from Stanford University School of Law and an M.B.A. degree from Stanford University Graduate School of Business. He is a past member of the California State Bar Corporations Committee.

Harvey Greenfield Professor of Securities Law, Harvard Law School

Allen Ferrell is the Greenfield Professor of Securities Law at Harvard Law School. He received his PhD in economics from MIT and his JD from Harvard Law School. He clerked for Judge Silberman on the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and for Justice Kennedy of the Supreme Court of the United States. He was written and consulted widely in the areas of capital market regulation, securities damages, and corporate governance.
