With the rapid economic development and growth of the Asian consumer market, manufacturers and supply chain solution providers have aggressively invested to adapt to this transformation and cater to a growing set of newly affluent customers. What are the key challenges to supplying to this new local market? Will the current global economic downturn cause shifts in these strategies? Terry Dooley has over 30 years experience in the logistics industry in both operations and business development. He spent the first 10 years of his career in various positions within the LTL trucking sector with Roadway Express and Consolidated Freightways. From there he assumed responsibility for all operations, sales and marketing for the Burlington Northern Railroad Chicago Region's intermodal operations for 6 years. Terry then spent 10 years in the freight forwarding business with Clipper Exxpress and Con-Way Truckload Services where he held various positions including Director Intermodal Pricing and Carrier Contracts, Director Rail Operations, Director of Logistics and VP of Operations. He has spent the last 10 years in the international freight forwarding arena as Vice President Global Logistics Solutions with GATX Logistics and APL Logistics where he helped organize The SPAMs Worldwide Shippers Association and served as its first President & CEO. In 2005 he accepted the position of Global Director Technology Development with Exel, a position he holds currently with DHL Global Customer Solutions, where he maintains business development responsibility for inbound supply chain services provided to Dell and their external parts suppliers. Mr. Dooley holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Missouri and is married with two daughters. Nancy LiangDirector - Enterprise Risk Management, Cummins Inc.Nancy Liang is the Director - Enterprise Risk Management at Cummins Inc., a $14 billion manufacturing company that designs, manufactures, distributes and services diesel engines, power generators and related components. Cummins has a very strong presence in China and other emerging markets. Nancy has extensive experience in business development and risk management in Asia, particularly in China. Her special expertise is in multinational manufacturing company's partnership strategy and execution in emerging markets, as well as mitigating strategic and operational risks specific to emerging markets. She has been an active speaker on industry conferences relate to emerging markets risk management. Her current area of interest is on the potential impact of a recession in reshaping the world power structure and manufacturing footprint. Nancy lately spends a lot of time studying the risks of suppliers and customers in the auto parts industry. Prior to the ERM role, Nancy had a strategy background, and had led the global strategic planning process for a $1 billion business unit that manufactures filtration and exhaust products. She previously managed a $400 million product line globally. Nancy holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, and a BA in Economics from Beijing Second Foreign Language University. Her pre-MBA experience was in China as a civil servant, managing international projects on poverty alleviation, education and development for the disadvantaged group, etc. She spoke at the United Nations Economic and Social Council's 45th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women in 2001.
Willy C. Shih 史兆威 (Moderator)Professor of Management Practice, Harvard Business SchoolWilly Shih is a Professor of Management Practice, having joined Technology and Operations Management in January 2007. He teaches in the second year elective curriculum, as well as the Executive Education program.
Willy is an experienced practitioner in the field of intellectual property, having structured numerous IP licensing programs, with extensive work in license negotiations and litigation. Willy has S.B. degrees in both Chemistry and Life Sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. He serves on the board of directors of Atheros Communications, Inc., Santa Clara, CA, Flextronics International (registered in Singapore), and is the Non-executive Chairman of QD Vision, Inc., Watertown, MA.
