In the midst of US credit meltdown and potential recession, Asia appears to be a brighter spot in terms of growth opportunities and exit market. Many large international PE firms have established offices throughout Asia. At the same time, local funds that are either raised overseas or domestically in local currency have attracted large amount of buying power. The Asian sovereign funds in China, Japan, and Singapore have appeared frequently in the headlines on buying up international assets. Although the macro markets look attractive, one can not ignore the enormous challenges in executing PE deals in Asia: fast changing regulatory environment, high entry point valuation, lack of the support of efficient financial systems, and difficulties in recruiting experienced executives. In addition, the abundance of capital makes the competition even more fierce and often requires shorter timeframe for professionals to conduct due diligence. In the panel, we will potentially raise the following questions for discussion:

  • Recent regulation changes and impact on the market
  • Competition between international funds and local funds
  • Challenges and evolvement of the exit strategies in Asian PE market
  • Cross-border opportunities
  • Growth equity vs. buyouts in Asia - short term and long term view
  • Outlook of the market and key trends in the future 3-5 years
  • Career experiences sharing and suggestions to post-MBA professionals
