While the world looks to Asia as the fastest growing economy in the world, countries within Asia are each looking to define their own roles and further their own development within the region. Each country and sub-region in Asia is in different economic and political stages on their path to future. This panel will explore the opportunities and challenges facing different countries in different stages of development throughout Asia, and the economic, political, social and environmental implications of various sub-regions' growth strategies.

Kelly C. Crabb

Mr. Crabb is co-chair of Morrison & Foerster LLP's engagement as international counsel for the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in connection with many international projects, including the negotiation and implementation of so-called BOB agreement governing the technical aspects of broadcasting, the international television broadcasting agreements, among other things. He is highly experienced in the arena of international entertainment, media and sports. He represented the Academy Award-winning producer, Gerald R. Molen ('Schindler's List,' 'Jurassic Park,' etc.), related to the acquisition and exploitation of the motion picture rights to the famous 'Lupin the 3rd' property created by Japanese manga and anime icon, Monkey Punch. He also represented Yomiko, a Japanese advertising company, in connection with the procurement of an endorsement deal featuring actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

Alain V. Fontaine

CEO, Newcom LLC

Alain V. Fontaine Mr. Fontaine is the CEO of Newcom LLC. Newcom is the Mongolian holding company of a diversified group that operates MobiCom, the largest mobile phone network in Mongolia, Newcom Property, a real estate management company, Eznis Airways, a domestic airline, Clean Energy the first wind farm in the country, and several other smaller subsidiaries and affiliates. He was previously the Managing Director of Investel Asia Limited, a consulting and private equity and venture capital investment firm that Mr. Fontaine founded in Hong Kong in 2000. He has served on the Board of Directors of Taiwan Broadband Communication, Entertainment Network India Ltd. and InfoBank. He is also the Honorary Consul of Canada to Mongolia and member of the Order of Engineers of Québec.

World Bank Executive Director: China

Jiayi Zou

Mrs. Zou was appointed Executive Director for China on February 1, 2005. She has extensive experience working within the World Bank Group and the Ministry of Finance in Beijing, China. Prior to accepting the post as Executive Director she served as Deputy Director-General of the Information Department at the Ministry of Finance from June 2000-January 2005. Earlier in 2000, February-May, she held the post of Director of International Financial Institution Division I, International Department at the Ministry of Finance. Mrs. Zou's first experiences at the Executive Directorate were from 1999-200 when she severed as the Alternate Executive Director and from 1996-1999 as the Advisor to the Executive Director. She has held numerous positions at the Ministry of Finance in the World Bank Department: 1994-1996 Deputy Director of Program and Policy Division; 1993-1994 Acting Deputy Director of Transport, Energy, and Industry Division; 1992-1993 Program Office in Technical Assistance Division; and 1990-1991 Program Officer in the Program and Policy Division, a position she also held from 1988-1989. She spent one year, 1991-1992, as a Project Officer in the Division of Foreign Affairs at the Yindaruqin Irrigation Project Management Bureau in Gansu Province, China.

She was born in Jiangsu, China. She holds an M.A. in International Economic Relations from the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Science (1988) and a B.A. in English Language and International Relations from the Institute of International Relations in Beijing (1985). In 1992 she received a Certificate in Development Economics from the London School of Economics.
